Essentially, my thesis is that the use of the new literacies had a democratizing effect that benefitted Obama by reinforcing the liberal viewpoint and revitalizing the American public’s sense of efficacy. The expanded opportunities to participate in the election generated buzz and genuine excitement among supporters that mobilized them in an entirely different manner than traditional media had energized supporters in the past.
Throughout this blog, I will analyze the background of this shift, then look at different features that Obama used in his campaign, such as his iPhone application, his websites, and his many social networking pages.
